One of the major roles of the Coordinator for Online Education at SUNY Delhi is in the area of Faculty Development. The primary emphasis of the faculty development is in developing necessary skills in the technologies and pedagogies of online learning. This will include working with development and management of online courses, effective use of Learning Management Systems, quality of online instruction, effective design of online course materials, creation of courses that are accessible to students with varying abilities and learning styles, as well as marketability of online courses.
Primary activities are currently being established for faculty development:
- Delhi Online Education Community of Practice - a user's group that meet's to learn about many various aspects of teaching and learning online and educational technologies. Many of the topics for the DOECOP Lunch Club will be generated by faculty members themselves.
- DOECAST: Delhi Online Education Podcast - a blog and podcast featuring video learning objects which faculty can view and learn with remotely. DOECAST will feature screencasts from the DOECOP Lunch Club, as well as others covering issues brought up by faculty members, new technologies, how-tos, tutorials, common questions, and tips for the online classroom.
- DOEpod - a pilot in the use of iPods for faculty training and development
- Private and small group consultations - faculty and staff members have met with the Coordinator for over 30 hours of private consultations in the last year and are always invited to initiate consultations by emailing email@example.com. In the Fall of 2008 a space and time will be established for walk-in questions, practice and training.
