One of the guiding priciples of a Delhi Online course is that there is alignment between the:

  1. Course learning objectives and measurable outcomes
  2. Unit/module learning objectives and measurable outcomes
  3. Resources and activities used to achieve the learning objectives and outcomes
  4. Assessment of achievement of learning objectives and outcomes

The learning objectives and outcomes should guide the design of the course and the materials and activities chosen to help the learner achieve the objectives. Therefore, the first step is to create high quality learning objectives and outcomes:

  1. Visualize the end of the course:
    1. What are students now able to do? know? apply? solve?
    2. How can this be measured? How much? How often? How many? Under what conditions?
  2. Refer to the DOE Learning Outcomes and Objectives Primerand create several measurable outcomes for the end of the course.
  3. Under each course level outcome, create the unit/module level outcomes that will feed into the course level outcomes.
  4. Under each unit/module level outcome, enter the activities and resources that will be used to meet the objectives.
  5. For each unit/module level outcome, add the assessment that will be used to measure if the student has achieved the outcomes.

Note: the objectives, activities, resources and assessments can always be put into a logical order later. It's possible that 3-4 unit/module level objectives (and their related resources, activities and assessments) that feed into 1 course level objective might be spread out among several different modules throughout the course.
